(Pew) they aren’t using their smartphone just to call people, they are using their devices when they are shopping and eating out, looking for reviews, recommendations, sales, coupons, etc. This provides a great opportunity for local businesses to connect with customers while they are in their location. Enter Place Tips.
Place Tips is an optional Facebook feature that helps people learn about and connect with the places they visit, including businesses. (Facebook for Business)Place tips are currently available in limited areas and only for use on the Facebook App (Android and IPhone.) Place Tips works by determining a users’ location via cellular network, Wi-Fi, GPS and the Facebook Beacon. Place Tips only displays information on the users’ device and does not post on a user’s account, nor does it show a user’s location.
Place Tips gathers information about a business, such as Page updates from the Business Page, upcoming events, other Friends’ reviews, check-ins or comments. This data will show at the top of the News Feed for customers in your location.
Place Tips can be used to communicate reviews, frequently mentioned comments about the establishment, business hours, sales, popular items or upcoming events. Business owners can also improve the customer experience by writing a customizable welcome note that will appear above the Place Tips feed.
This note can be used to communicate promotions or specials and also more information about the business.
For example, a restaurant could use Place Tips to promote their Daily Specials. A bookstore could promote a book signing. A retail store could promote a special sale item.

Place Tips will only be visible to App users who have their location turned on and have given Facebook permission to access their location. Tips will be show to people who have previously checked in to the business on Facebook.
However, if you are not active on Facebook – don’t have any reviews, don’t post updates daily, don’t have promotions or information about your business your business may not have any Place Tips to show. Facebook will “only show them when there is enough content from the business and a person’s friends to offer an enjoyable experience.” (Facebook for Business)
Page Admins for local business pages should start to see the Place Tips set-up message at the top of their Business Page. Just click to set up and get your message out there.
